Paragraph

Paragraph yaitu bab dari sebuah goresan pena yang berisi kumpulan kalimat, Paragraph merupakan istilah lain dari alinea. Oleh hasilnya paragraph sanggup diberikan pengertian sebagai suatu bentuk pengungkapan gagasan yang terjalin dalam rangkaian beberapa kalimat.

Bagian-bagian dari paragraph:

1. Topic Sentence

Topic sentence sanggup dikatakan sebagai kalimat pertama dalam sebuah paragraph. Fungsi dari topic sentence ini yaitu memperkenalkan main idea atau pandangan gres utama dalam sebuah paragraph.

Contoh:

There are three reasons why Canada is one of the best countries in the world. First, Canada has an excellent health care system. All Canadians have access to medical services at a reasonable price. Second, Canada has a high standard of education. Students are taught by well-trained teachers and are encouraged to continue studying at university. Finally, Canada's cities are clean and efficiently managed. Canadian cities have many parks and lots of space for people to live. As a result, Canada is a desirable place to live.

2. Supporting Details

Supporting detail berisikan kalimat-kalimat yang mendudukung atau memperjelas main idea dari sebuah paragraph dan letaknya  setelah topic sentence. Supporting Details ini sanggup dikatakan sebagai body pada  sebuah paragraph. Bagian ini sanggup berisikan details atau rincian-rincian, contoh-contoh ataupun fakta-fakta.

3. Closing Sentence

Closing Sentence yaitu kalimat terakhir pada sebuah paragraph. Closing sentence merupakan kalimat yang merekapitulasi atau menyatakan kembali main idea dengan bahasa yang berbeda. Disamping itu, closing sentence sanggup sebagai kalimat transisi sebelum memasuki paragraph selanjutnya.
